About
LESLYE LEANESS
My work begins with movement. I think of drawing much like dancing—the hand moves, responds, and follows intuition. I rarely know exactly where a piece will go, allowing one mark, shape, or texture to lead to the next. Influenced by Taoism and the idea of moving with the natural flow of life, I am interested in allowing rather than forcing. My work explores the balance between structure and spontaneity, geometry and organic form, stillness and movement. Drawing is a way for me to slow down and be present. Through repetition, texture, color, and line, I create a visual rhythm that connects the intimate details of the natural world with something larger. For me, making art is a conversation between intention and surrender—a way of moving, listening, and allowing something to emerge.
